Description
Dornblüth & Sohn 99.1 Ceramic Sea
The 99.1 ceramic in sea blue is an exciting combination of Dornblüth’s classic watchmaking style and striking custom ceramic dial technology that perfectly captures the Australian ocean palette and lifestyle.
The beautiful semi-matt dial finish is achieved through an intensive process of colour-matching powders and applying layers of ceramic, levelled at each stage, before the markings and indices are milled to create depth and precision edges on the silken background.
Each dial colour is crafted by hand to deliver a truly unique face for the much-loved 99.1. We’ve called this one “sea” because of the changing colour range as light breaks across its surface. The enchanting richness and palette ranges from dark teal, to petrol blue and onto a deep blue crystal teal. The photos we’ve taken for you try to highlight this variation, but fail to capture the true allure of this stunning piece that can be further customised to suit your style with a multitude of band options to either emphasize boldness or deliver a subtleness for more formal occasions.
In addition to the special ceramic dial, the milled indices and hands have been filled with highly luminous material for optimal contrast and legibility but the ‘cherry on top’ is the numeral treatment. On this piece, Dornblüth has opted to use lume-coated, hand-applied numerals that deliver a crisp contrast against the dial to evoke freshness and clarity rarely seen on a classic timepiece.
While the aesthetics are definitely a high point on the 99.1 Sea, the movement is also developed in-line with Dornblüth’s high horological standards. Dornblüth & Sohn’s timepieces are renowned for their classical appearance, precise, in-house movements, and exquisite craftsmanship. The calibre 99.1 features a centred hour & minute hand and an enlarged small second sub-dial set at 6 o’clock. Furthermore, the presentation of Dornblüth & Sohn’s classic 99.1 model in this striking upgraded finish offers enthusiasts of the brand an opportunity to further customise and individualise their look without excess or unnecessary complication.
Technical Specifications
The Calibre: After some time, the two master watchmakers found that the calibre 99.0 with its small subsidiary second needed a somewhat more harmonic face. Different issues had been in consideration but increasing the size of the small “second” was the most appealing option. With the help of a long-standing friend of the family and many hours of refinement, the new face of Cal. 99.1 was born.
