Description
The Quintus collection was developed in homage to the traditions of watchmaking and attests to Dornblüth’s reputation as master watchmakers. Father and son team, Dieter and Dirk Dornblüth, spent many years developing the in-house calibre that is housed within the Quintus range.
Fascinated by the Maltese Cross mechanism they saw in vintage pocket watches as well as watch designs from 1914 by Hermann Sievert, Dieter and Dirk Dornblüth, took on the task of developing a unique Maltese Cross construction aimed at optimising performance. Their system achieves an almost linear torque to power the balance by means of two barrels connected in series – the resulting component achieves a higher rate of accuracy, thus improved time keeping over time.
By incorporating their Maltese Cross construction into the in-house, Q-2010 calibre they were able to increase accuracy, and by integrating another classic, but forgotten, element of watchmaking from the 1940s, namely a short anchor escapement with a lowered escape wheel, they were able to considerably reduce the positional errors caused by the anchor escapement, making the Q-2010 calibre exceptionally precise.
Dornblüth & Sohn’s Q-2010 calibre sets a benchmark in in-house calibre manufacture and is definitely a noteworthy horological achievement for a small, family-owned company.
