Muehle-Glashuette’s Teutonia IV Moon Phase is the company’s first timepiece to feature a functional moon phase indication.
A Moon Phase complication is a classic, elegant feature on any watch, especially the Teutonia IV Moon Phase with Muehle’s clean nautical-look treatment and fine finishes. On this piece, the moon phase indicator is housed in a neat 10mm disc, positioned at 6 o’clock. The lunar display contains two images of the moon in order to provide a realistic day-by-day insight into the transition from new moon to full moon and back to new moon, over a period of approx. 29.5 days, thus it takes the disc 59 days to complete a full cycle.
The tiny moon miniatures are the result of meticulous work by the watchmakers at Muehle-Glashuette who have carefully reproduced the large and small craters of this astronomical body to enhance realism. The night sky, in Muehle’s signature dark blue, that surrounds the moon images is dotted with star highlights for added flare.
The detailed moon phase display is presented on a light-coloured dial with applied silver indices and clearly marked minute graduation in dark blue. Another blue feature of this watch is its lance-shaped hour and minute hands and slim second hand, all of which extend to the perfect length for clear readings on their respective time scales.
The case of the watch is another prime example of Muehle’s dedication to quality. The case is highly polished and curved to complement the volute-shaped lugs that tuck beautifully into a steel band.
Inside the case, which is not only attractive but also water-resistant to 10 bars, beats a reliable automatic movement. This piece is built around the Muehle-version SW 280-1 calibre with patented woodpecker neck regulation with the addition of the lunar disc, produced especially for Muehle-Glashuette and the company’s 150 year anniversary rotor. On top of all the detail and design is the technology and testing. Once its components have been carefully finished and assembled, the movement is put to the test in six different positions and regulated to achieve accuracy values of between 0 and a maximum of +8 seconds per day. This precision target complies with the highest German chronometer standards to keep you on time, by the light of day or night.
