The 29er family of wristwatches was first launched by Nautische Instrumente Mühle-Glashütte in 2006. Its name was inspired by a small regatta skiff used by young sailing talents in their competitions in the Junior Championship Class run by the German Sailing Association. The 29er sailing skiff is a so-called one-design boat, which means that all models are virtually identical–from the sail to the hull. The same applies to Mühle-Glashütte’s 29er as a watch: although they have different case diameters, the 29er (36mm) and 29er Big (42mm) are close siblings. It therefore comes as no surprise that the smaller 29er is now following in the footsteps of its big brothers, namely by making waves with colourful models to deliver vibrant fresh looks with classic design.
Mühle-Glashütte’s 29er has always represented optimal quality and timekeeping precision. The case, water resistant to 10 bars (100m), is fitted with the characteristic side protection, which protects the screw-in crown in the event of impact from the side and provides a smooth contour on the wrist. To give wearers a clear view of the dial, a scratch-resistant and anti-glare sapphire crystal is fitted. Legibility is further enhanced via fine minute graduation located on the flange, ensuring that the dial remains as uncluttered as possible. Subtle high-grade finishes such as applied, polished indices, give the 29er a hint of luxury that is balanced against a slender red second hand and lume-filled hour/minute hands for a sporty touch. When it comes to the inner workings of the 29er, the precise SW 200-1 Mühle version movement drives the heart of each piece. The automatic movement comes equipped with the efficient Mühle-Glashütte rotor and shockproof woodpecker neck regulation for improved performance. This special component facilitates precision regulation in six different positions to ensure accuracy values between 0 to +8 seconds per day. This impressive precision target meets Mühle-Glashütte’s stringent in-house regulation standards which comply with the German Chronometer Standard.
While the 29er Big collection features nautical shades of blue, aqua, sand and grey, the smaller 29er collection is all about fun, freshness and summertime exuberance. The mint-coloured dial has a touch of 80s pastel about it, and we all know that’s a good thing, right (cue Spandau Ballet).
