Moritz Grossmann Tremblage XV Birthday Edition

Description

Moritz Grossmann Tremblage XV Birthday Edition
Reference: MG-003658

#1/1 A unique piece for the manufactory’s anniversary: the TREMBLAGE XV marks the 15th birthday of the manufactory. With this limited edition piece, Moritz Grossmann pays homage to a historic engraving technique: the dial of the unique TREMBLAGE XV Birthday Edition has been finished using the tremblage engraving technique. This is a classical ennobling technique where the engraver runs a burin over the metal using tiny back-and-forth movements, giving the technique its name derived from the French word ‘tremblant’ simply means ‘to tremble’. However, it requires, as described in historical books about the art of engraving, ‘a good deal of practise to achieve evenly’. Only absolute pressure and stroke control can create the look that makes the dial of this anniversary watch so expressive: with a rough, matt surface that catches the light, giving rise to a muted shimmer. The use of German silver as the dial material also adds to this with its warm shade which affords a three-dimensionality to the dial. Due to the delicate and thoughtful use of relief engraving, the hour numerals, small seconds circle, plus the historic logo ‘M. Grossmann’appear to almost hover above the surface. It requires a great deal of care and experience to create clean edges when applying this technique. The inscriptions ‘2008-2023’ and the number ‘15’ on the dial recognise the manufactory’s anniversary. They have been given a different surface structure by hand to make them ‘dance’ in incident light, leading to stirking visual effects.

The elegant hands adorning the dial have been painstakingly annealed to a brown-violet hue, catching and reflecting light as they circle above the special, German silver dial. The calibre 100.1, encompassing the finest mechanics the manufactory has to offer, can be viewed through the generous exhibition, glass case back. In addition to the carefully considered construction of the pillar movement, which was made from untreated German silver just like the dial, the elaborate finishing by hand on all components is completed to perfection. The barrel bridge made from German silver, has been intricately grained to create an even surface. The surrounding edges are bevelled by hand and ensure special shimmering accents with their polished surfaces. The historic Moritz Grossmann signature is engraved in cursive script, a nod to the master’s old pocket watches. The individual movement number is also engraved in cursive script here. The floral pattern on the balance and escape wheel cock is also applied by hand. The other surfaces are finished using traditional polishing techniques.

The TREMBLAGE XV Anniversary Edition is presented in a gorgeous rose gold case and will only be available as a one-off. This unique piece is worn on a brown alligator leather strap.
