Hentschel’s New H2 SPORT is distinguished by its elegance and optimal performance. Although the New H2 SPORT has Hentschel‘s robust, specially-treated ship propellor bronze case, it is not nearly as bulky as a traditional sports watch. Another point of difference can be seen in the tidy lines of the dial design which compare favourably to the often busy-looking dials of many sports watches. The NEW H2 SPORT is clearly legible and deliberately renounces any additional or uneccessary information.
The engraved top ring gives the NEW H2 SPORT its subtle sporty edge. The bezel is fixed with four blued screws which enhance the light play off the arched dial. In combination with the similarly curved sapphire glass, the NEW H2 SPORT is an exceptionally beautiful piece to wear.
Optimised comfort and wearability of the New H2 SPORT is a direct result of the harmonious proportions of the case. Made of specially treated, satinised (Tresor) marine-grade bronze and fixed with six-screw, it is surprisingly flat. Measuring only 8 mm high, the New H2 SPORT case is only half as thick as other sports watches and fits perfectly under any shirt cuff without disturbing the wearer or adding too much bulk to the wrist.
Why bronze is a wonderful material for watch cases
Unlike pure gold casings, the surface of bronze is very hard and therefore significantly more scratch-resistant. However, it is important that the surface of the bronze housing is reliabe and durable against age and oxidation that can cause unpleasant discoloration. Hentschel has taken great care to select a matrime-grade bronze for their cases. All Bronze cases used for Hentschel timepieces are made of special ship’s propeller bronze, a traditional alloy from shipbuilding that has been used sucessfully in Hamburg for more than 100 years.
In fact, Hentschel is proudly the only watch manufacturer that builds bronze watches that neither oxidize nor start up, and thus will not not change colour over time. This is a key feature of Hentschel’s bronze cases, and is a result of over a decade of field research and development at Hentschel’s HQ. Tis point is so significant that Germany‘s renowned ARMBANDUHRENMAGAZIN magazines writes: „Other manufacturers are obviously unaware of this technique and therefore ‚proudly‘ point out the individuality which their watchs gain through the aging process and the associated discolouration over time.“ Not Hentschel though, and it is this extra care that makes a Hentschel watch so special.
Movement: In-house HUW 1130 S
Perhaps the most impresive aspect of the New H2 SPORT is the inclusion of Hentchel’s new manufactory caliber HUW 1130 S.
Completely redesigned on the basis of the long-standing AS 1130 hand-applied hand-winding calibre. The work bridges have been redesigned and are now reminiscent of the aesthetics of the pocket watch caliber of the early 20th century. The swan neck fine adjustment makes it possible to precisely regulate the accuracy of the gait. All clockwork components have been optimised in terms of design, the focus being on a wear reduction and thus on the durability of the gears and the vibration system. Our new manufactory caliber HUW 1130 S sets new technical standards and combines robustness with precision.
Case: Matt polished, extremely robust ‘Tresor’ case made from age-resistant ship propeller bronze, screwed bezel, water resistant to 50m/5ATM
