In life we encounter the spherical shape everywhere. In nature we see it everywhere from juicy berries to celestial planets, in technology from ball bearings to building design and in art – from the Christmas ball to the pearl. Form approaches perfection – without edges or corners, in an endless curve. This concept of infinite possibility, infinite measurement, and infinite time captured Alexander Shrokhoff’s imagination and germinated the seed of an idea that grew into… SHAR.
When everything fits, everything runs smoothly which is why the sphere appears so often in functional design and also why the smooth form fascinates artists and technicians alike. Alexander Shorokhoff being no exception. SHAR features many unique and intriguing features. The case and the front glass unite to form the shape of the sphere. A special one-screw construction was developed to connect the bottom and the body of the case without additional edges and holes. The screw is located in the middle of the underside of the case to connect the two parts and help retain waterproofness. It also has a hemispherical shape that matches the overall case form. Similarly, the sapphire crystal is perfectly matched to the spherical shape and blends almost seamlessly into the case. The lugs are also made of small balls and hold the strap to the watch with the help of a bar facilitating either a steel bracelet or leather strap to be fitted.
Inside the watch ticks the Swiss movement ETA.2671 with automatic winding. The rotor of the movement is hand-engraved, in-house at Alexander Shorokhoff, and the dial is hand-engraved with floral motifs and finished with rhodium to retain its alluring shine. The elegant hands are flame-blued and contrast the dial in a subtle fashion that also delivers good legibility.
