Alexander Shorokhoff NEVA Blue Special

Description

Alexander Shorokhoff NEVA Blue Special
Reference: AS.NEV02-3

The Neva collection is inspired by the mighty European river Neva which flows through Saint Petersburg injecting life and vitality into all it passes on its way to the Baltic Sea in the Gulf of Finland.

The beautiful wavy guilloché of the dial and the small curved second hand, which bears the shape of the letter “N” in reference to its namesake, evoke images of the flowing force of nature and the balance and harmony of this force over time.

The blue, silver and gold colouring is based on the seasonal phenomenon of “white nights,” when the sun never completely sets on the former tsarist city. From the end of May to mid-June, St. Petersburg becomes one of the most romantic cities in the world. The night sun creates a unique light that flashes on the majestic cathedrals and the golden palaces, making them glitter and shine – a true light spectacle. Even at midnight, the twilight shows from blue to yellow, conjuring up an extraordinary atmosphere. This blaze of colour has been incorporated into the Neva Blue collection via yellow-gold hands, calendar window and oversized “60” which are set against an enchanting blue and silver backdrop to optimise legibility as well as aesthetic.

Current models are based on the Russian calibre 3105.Poljot which is derived from the Swiss Valjoux calibre 7734, but without chronograph function. Sadly these robust movements are no longer produced however, Alexander Shorokhoff has secured a limited quantity, sufficient to create and maintain this series in a limited number. Before being assembled into the case, the movement is completely overhauled, re-oiled, adjusted and tested at Alexander Shorokhoff’s manufactory in Germany. As with all Shorokhoff watches, the bridges are hand-engraved or cloud-cut, and the screws are polished and flame-blued. The delicate details on the movement can be viewed through a generous, sapphire crystal exhibition case back.

The special blue IP-coated case on this model is the perfect frame for this work of horological art and when combined with a tone-in-tone, leather band the look is both modern and stylish, making a statement about its owner and providing a nod to the majesty of nature and time.
