Description

Alexander Shorokhoff Merkur
Ref: AS.VK-MKR5

MERKUR – calendar watch. Date, week, month, moon in one rhythm.

In addition to displaying the current time, Alexander Shorokhoff’s Merkur also indicates the date, day of the week, and month phase. Designed as a watch with a full calendar, the Merkur is a practical option for those who like to have everything at a glance. The name “Merkur” is inspired by the planet with its crater-covered surface reminiscent of the moon, it seamlessly integrates into the design concept of the new model.

The day is located on the inner bezel and is indicated by the central date hand with an orange tip, while the day of the week and the month are displayed in a tidy window under the 12 o’clock position. The moon phase is located in the lower half of the dial, designed as a small disc that slowly moves over the course of a month to depict various moon phases such as full moon, half-moon, new moon, and waning moon. During a full moon, the orange shpere appears precisely in the centre of the aperture, opposite the marking for 29.5 days, which is the time it takes for the moon to orbit the Earth. The lunar phase display is an aesthetic and traditional feature in many classic wristwatches and is often integrated into watches for enthusiasts of astronomical details. The planet Mercury is located very close to the sun and is therefore constantly exposed to solar radiation and solar winds. For this reason, the planet has a yellow-orange hue that perfectly complements the orange-glowing lunar phase as its inspiration. The harmonious combination of rich green, warm gold tones, and vibrant orange in the calf leather strap, the date hand, and the lunar phase creates a balanced and appealing colour palette that enhances legibility whilst giving a nod to its celestial namesake.

The Merkur houses the automatic calibre DD9000 by Dubois Depraz, whose hand-engraved and embellished rotor embodies the essence of craftsmanship and ennobling mastery. With its blued screws and the precision of 25 jewels adorning the movement, it is a true expression of precision and elegance. The power reserve of approximately 42 hours, ensuring this watch not only measures time but also endures through time. With a limited production of only 31 pieces, a comprehensive and intriguing array of complications and a unique aesthetic, Alexander Shorokhoff’s Merkur is a true rarity.
