Story of a Repeater

Recognised as one of the traditional complications associated with high-end watchmaking, a repeater watch contains a special complication that chimes the exact time of day to the minute or 5 minutes (depending on the complication), through the manual activation of a push button or slide piece. The time is chimed by small hammers repetitively striking specific parts to achieve different tones for the hour and minute indication. The number of hours is chimed first, followed by a chime for either each minute (on a minute repeater) or each 5 minute interval (on 5 minute repeaters).

If you’ve never heard a mechanical repeater before… listen to this. On this piece, the tones are especially clear as a result of the titanium case material.

Richard and Maria Habring and their team already enjoy global renown for their horological innovations. Having built their own calibre, won numerous watch accolades and awards and re-enlivened many classic watch complications such as the repeater, foudroyante (also known as a flashing second), top second, split second chronograph, and perpetual calendar, any timepiece from this independent watch brand is underscored by quality and attention to detail.

But now some details about this week’s hero – the 5 Minute Repeater – a contemporary interpretation of a classic.

This 5 Minute Repeater is bound to impress those who love the engineering and tradition behind fine watchmaking. It’s clean surfaces and matt finishes complement the modern treatment Habring2 gives this special calibre which is a blend of Habring2’s in-house A11 calibre and a Dubois-Depraz D90 5-Minute Repeater module. However, the sleek finish and attractive aesthetics are not the only special aspects of this piece. Another defining feature is the crystal clear chime of the repeater which occurs as a result of the titanium case in which it is housed.

Another enhancement from the team at Habring2 is the water resistance of 3ATM (30m) making it watertight against splashes and accidental brief contact with water in a class of watches that normally do not offer this feature. Habring2’s Repeater proves that fine watchmaking, contemporary design and technical precision can go hand in hand for a resounding success.
