Shorokhoff’s chrono-regulator is a rare execution of a chronograph. As with all true regulators, the minute hand is centred but Shorokhoff has added to timekeeping precision by including several additional sub dials: the hour sub dial sits at 6 o’clock and the second display is at 9 o’clock. A cleverly placed date window sits within the hour sub dial at 6 o’clock so the wearer can see the rose gold-plated, etched date indicator wheel turn as the days pass by. In order to see the date clearly in one position through the window, a special bridge was developed. On the plate below this window is a circular area that was covered in a thin layer of dark blue enamel to increase visibility.
The chronograph timer features have also been given their own space. The large second hand fixed to the centre of the dial and the small minute counter in the sub dial located at 3 o’clock, thus keeping all timing elements separate and clearly divisible.
Although the Chrono-Regulator presents a lot of information, it remains legible and functional thanks to a few special design features. The rose gold-plated guilloched outer rim provides a visually calm backdrop for the dial, the silver, skeletonised movement contrasts in both colour and motive to add both a classic design element and a differential colour palette to the overall face of the watch. Finally, the use of flame-blued hands ensures optimal contrast for the important indicator elements so the time is always easy to read.
The intricate movement beating at the heart of the Chrono-Regulator is not only skeletonised by hand, but also hand-engraved on both sides. Every detail is painstakingly undertaken by a skilled ennobler to ensure balance, depth and detail. This is why the edition is limited to only 68 pieces per dial.
