Description

Lang & Heyne Hektor B

Hektor represents an exciting contemporary addition to Lang & Heyne’s magnificent classic and custom collections. Retaining the company’s attention to detail and that honours the tradition of watchmaking, this collection introduces a more pared back, modern option for lovers of fine horology.

The idea behind Hektor’s design and functionality comes from 14th-century music theory adopted by French and Italian composers whereby an additional ‘voice’ is integrated into an existing melody via the process known as polyphony. In this way Hector adds to Lang & Heyne’s existing symphony of timepieces in a fully integrated and complementary manner.

Attention to detail
Hektor is characterised by evenly coordinated details that repeat the “H” and “petticoat” motives underpinning the exciting and fresh movement design and dial detail.

The dial of this centre second timepiece offers the first glimpse of both design elements with its subtle “H” insignia adding a distinctive backdrop for the elegant hands and a small petticoat opening, or skeletonized section, at 6 o’clock that affords a partial view into the movement, promising the innovation to come. And indeed it does… Hektor’s real beauty, is the striking in-house movement which is revealed through an anti-reflective sapphire glass, exhibition case back.

Design idiom
The “petticoat” design language from Hektor conveys a strong presence, from the movement architecture and hour-wheel cock to the dial and hands. Drawn from classic horology, the petticoat motive is often featured in pocket watch movements that require accuracy as well as beauty.
The stylized “H” on the hour appliqués and in the relief pattern on Hektor’s inner dial provide a uniform and distinctive touch. As well as appearing strongly on the dial, the “H” symbol is repeatedly featured throughout Hektor’s entire design to create a seamless and balanced finish. For those astute enough to notice, the specially designed solid steel bracelet also picks up the unique design element in its precisely chamfered link shape.
In this way, the dial, case and bracelet are perfectly matched to the caliber, and the elegant design is completed with a gently rounded, cushion-shaped crown protection which ensures the watch is as easy to wear as it is to look at.

In-House movement – LANG & HEYNE 33.2
The Lang & Heyne movement 33.2 is immediately recognisable because of its open architecture – a feature distinctive to Hektor. The extra flatform is facilitated by the company’s special eccentric balance and a flying barrel development. Custom parts on the balance cock allow fine adjustment while simultaneously enabling the wearer to see deep into the movement structure. All frame parts and driving train wheels are made of Arcap, a sophisticated non-magnetic material that takes on a special sheen and ultra-clear finish when polished. To enhance durability, other parts such as shafts, screws and levers are made of abrasion-resistant steel. The result is beautifully aesthetic as well as being durable and functional, in line with Lang & Heyne’s watchmaking standards.

Hektor is available as a 99 piece limited edition with 3 dial colour options: anthracite grey, midnight blue, and British racing green.
Each model is finished to Lang & Heyne’s exacting standards and has its own unique appeal so, all you need to do is decide which model best reflects your lifestyle and personality.

Clean, fresh and modern… the attraction of the big blue calls to the adventurous spirit in us.

Lang & Heyne: Tradition and Values

Lang & Heyne: Tradition and Values

Tradition and value are evident in all aspects of a Lang & Heyne timepiece.  However, several highlights ensure your Lang & Heyne stands apart from its contemporaries in both style and finish.

  1. Unmistakeable: three lugs provide a stable hold for the watch strap and emphasize the vertical axis to balance it against the crown and its protective form.

  1. Detail: polished and partly flame-blued screws are a particular source of pride for Lang & Heyne. Using a fine, goat’s hair brush on domed threads and bevelled/polished heads, in-house specialists manufacture only 12 to 15 screws per day!

  1. Heritage: using a rediscovered method from the 18th and 19th century, plates, bridges and balance cocks are given a unique cover known as silver grinding which uses a stiff-bristle brush to apply a special mixture to the brass movement component resulting in a fine, grain-like surface that is then gold-plated.

  1. Hands: every attention is given to the perfection of the three-dimensional shape and fill of the hands whether they are ornate, engraved Louis-XV hands or perfectly filed/polished spade & cathedral hands, the beauty is in the detail.

  1. Precision: the balance spring is mathematically and precisely calculated to enhance every oscillation. The last coil is carefully adjusted upwards for precision by an experienced specialist in a time-consuming and exacting procedure so you reap the benefits of better timing.

  1. Solid gold: since 2016 each Lang & Heyne watch houses golden wheels with chamfered spokes combined with steel pinions to decrease friction and enhance performance.

  1. More gold: in accordance with Saxon watchmaking tradition, polished gold chatons are countersunk and screwed into the bridges and balance cocks, giving the ruby jewels a deep, fiery-red appearance. However, the crowning glory is the diamond that crowns the masterpiece, visually enhancing and protecting the tongued jewels set below and ensuring the sensitive pivot is resistant against shock.

  1. Enamel: Many models feature a pristine enamel dial, produced in several layers through a complex manufacturing process that delivers a charming, characterful result, well-suited to Lang & Heyne’s noble collection.

  1. Moustache Anchor: the anchor system is made of solid gold and operates in the lever escapement to correct the barycentre of the anchor which facilitates smoother power transmission to the balance in various positions, enhancing performance and power usage.

  1. In-house calibres: it goes without saying that this level of watchmaking and attention to detail is achieved by overseeing and steering every aspect of production. Lang & Heyne develops and uses in-house, manufactory calibres in all its timepieces.

NB: Small parts and movement components may vary depending upon construction parameters.
