Description
Alexander Shorokhoff Tourbillon Picassini
Model: AS-TU-PCSN
The tourbillon, originally developed ca. 1795 by renowned French watchmaker Abraham-Louis Breguet, was designed to improve the accuracy of pocket watches. Many consider the tourbillon to be one of the most prestigious and challenging watch mechanisms to manufacture. As such, it is highly valued for its engineering and design principles. The first production tourbillon mechanism was produced by Breguet for Napoleon in one of his carriage clocks – so, you are in good company.
In a tourbillon the escapement and balance wheel are mounted in a rotating cage, in order to negate the effects of gravity when the timepiece (escapement) is stuck in a certain position. By continuously rotating the entire balance wheel/escapement assembly at a slow rate (typically around one revolution per minute) the tourbillon averages out positional errors thus evening out the timekeeping process.
Alexander Shorokhoff’s elaborately finished Tourbillon Picassini does justice to this feat of watchmaking. Everything about the design and movement of the 5 piece Limited Edition Tourbillon Picassini is detailed to perfection.
The unique motif of the avant-garde dial is located at 12 o’clock and represents the interaction of two faces, male and female, united in circular harmony. A festival of enamelled colours and deep-etched/3D shapes adorn this dial of this masterpiece but without a shadow of doubt, the outstanding tourbillon feature is the highlight.
This precise complication is framed in a circular window at 6 o’clock to add harmony for the eye and balance for the movement.
If you enjoy modern art and admire the heritage of fine watchmaking, Alexander Shorokhoff’s Tourbillon Picassini could be the crowning glory in your collection of modern watches.
